Vocab Sleuth: a daily Wordle-style word game for the classroom

Vocab Sleuth is a free word-guessing game like Wordle, made for teachers and students. Pick a grade band, and everyone guesses the same grade-appropriate mystery word in six tries. After each guess, colored tiles show which letters are in the word and which are in the right spot, so students practice spelling, letter patterns and reasoning while they play.

Built for classrooms

  • Words picked for each grade. Grades 1–2 and 3–4 guess four-letter words; grades 4–8 guess five-letter words. Answers come from the Dale–Chall list of familiar words, ranked by how often they're used.
  • One word a day for the whole class. Everyone playing the same grade band gets the same word, so you can play together on the projector or compare results.
  • Preview the vocabulary. Every possible answer is listed on the Word Lists page.
  • Kid-safe. Inappropriate words are filtered out of both the answers and the guesses.
  • Works in any browser. Chromebooks, iPads, laptops and interactive whiteboards. Nothing to install.
